Loop of Our Lives
The circle of life
One of the things my husband and I do is journal, which means we sometimes catch the universe trolling us.
Exactly one year ago, we were at Disneyland Shanghai. This year, almost to the date, we ended up at Genting Skyworld. Last year on the same date, we had crab roe rice for dinner. This year? Crab roe rice again, only at lunch.
We don’t plan these things. And yet, there it is: theme park, crab, same date. It’s eerie, like we’re caught in a loop. Did we really grow, or are we just replaying the same year with lesser budget ?
Maybe that’s just who we are. We’re always up for new experiences, yes, but we never stray too far from what we love. Theme parks call to us, and we happily strap in. The famous Shanghai crab dish is now in town? We rush there by lunch. Perhaps the universe isn’t trolling us after all. It’s just nudging us back toward our soft spots, like: “Stop pretending. You’re not sophisticated. You’re rollercoasters and crabs.”
And honestly? Maybe it’s true. Life might not be a straight climb upwards, but a series of spirals around the same loves, looping closer each time. Theme parks, crab roe, the same date circled again in our journals. Next year, who knows, maybe crab sticks on a rollercoaster. At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised.
If you don’t journal, you should try it. Not just for the memories, but for the eerie fun of discovering your own loops. Because you might find that your life, too, is less of a ladder and more of a merry-go-round, except hopefully with better food.
